4th of july 2020

This is the first time we’ve celebrated the 4th of July under a global pandemic condition. Under the current guidelines we celebrated at home by ourselves.

Even though the level of fireworks is peanuts compared to the city we left our fur balls did not enjoy the night time celebrations at all.

Ghetto Bus…

Pulled out the old Ghetto Bus today. It’s been sitting in the Manetarium unused for quite some time.

I did the full water top off maintenance and deep cycle charged for at least three days in a row. It seemed to operate as it always has in the past.

SUV AC fix…

Started another project this morning. This time the AC repair on wifeys SUV.

The AC blows cold but the top vents are not pushing cold air through.

Not much room to maneuver around for a big guy like me.

After researching the best estimate I could come up with was the passenger side blend air actuator. This part controls the vent flap and this the airflow to the upper vents.

I drove down to the local Oreilly’s auto parts store and picked up the part. I also bought a cabin filter since I was going to working in that area.

The cabin filter was really bad. I don’t think it has ever been changed.

I dig it when I change the right part on the first try! LOL! The blend door changed positions immediately after switching on the ignition. The AC’s cold air blew right through.

One note, it’s a freaking bitch to get access to the actuators three mounting screws. I had to fabricate two special tools to gain access and manipulate the fasteners removal. I’ll post photos of the tools later with an edit of this original post.

SUV brake job…

Wifeys SUV needed a front brake job so tonight I installed sets of new pads and rotors.

It turned out the local auto parts place had a half off special on brake components. Perfect deal and timing.

Having the swamp cooler running makes a huge difference while working inside the Manetarium.

After inspection of the original parts I’d say these were freakin’ toast!

These parts were the passenger side rotor and brake pads. The drivers side rotor was hardly scorched at all. This rotor already made contact with metal and completely destroyed. Nowadays I don’t even mess with trying to have a rotor resurfaced, I replace and forget about it.

Walter fire…

It’s sort of ironic that just last night I had posted how wonderful the view is. Tonight I’m listening to reports on the scanner about a fire that has broken out on Hunt Road near the Calaveres County dump.

This is the dump I go to when we need to do a run. I’d say it is about 8-10 miles from our home. Considering that this fire went from a 10 acre burn to over 1000 acres in an hour I’m very concerned. One factor on our favor is the wind is blowing South East, so away from us for now.

I’ll be monitoring the scanner throughout the night.
