Jack and the Beanstock Tree…
When we first moved into our home back in late October of 2018 we had this weird looking small tree by the shop. It has now grown into a huge tree with a lot of shade.
I’ve been calling this tree my Jack and the Beanstock tree based on a movie released in 1952 featuring Abbott and Costello. The tree had similar legs heart shape leaves.
I recently found out what this tree is and it’s pretty cool. Dunno if the original owners planted the tree or somehow the seeds came about and grew into what it is today.
Here’s the info I found:
Paulownia kawakamii, commonly known as the sapphire dragon tree, is a tree species in the Paulowniaceae family. The tree is native to Taiwan, eastern China, and Japan. It is deciduous and bears many large violet flowers in early spring before the leaves appear. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Paulownia kawakamii
Lunch break…
Wifey brought me down lunch while working in the Manetarium. Spent a good chunk of the day working on the 1776cc motor that will eventually make its way to the Speedster.
The “Pitstop”…
Well, that’s the new name of the fenced in area. Since it has a horse shoe pit and a BBQ pit is nearby the name Pitstop seems appropriate. I’m going to have a burnt siping made with stating just that. We plan on hanging it right at the driveway entrance gate.
Still banging away…
I have no idea what I’m doing. I put tunes on the flat screen and play along whatever happens to be on at the time. I’m seriously going to have to get someone who knows how to play over here.
Scorching weather…
The shop driveway was super hot due to the 105 degree ambient temperature.
Spa time!
Well… not really, damn thing is leaking. Another thing to figure out around the homestead. All good, in time we’ll be enjoying the jacuzzi!
The black filter looking piece seems to be leaking from below the base area.
Gated community…
Our little fur ball gated community is now open for business! We have access gates on the shop driveway and the other side coming down the backyard access steps. This will be the path Jaxson and Serenity will take when they need to go potty.
The surrounding areas have been checked for fur ball escape routes and access for other animals coming in.
The horse shoe pit is now an exclusive members only attraction. Well, we’ve really never had anyone else come in and used the pit without us being home. It just sounds good.
Fencing Update…
Due to cosmetic logistics of using lattice on a steep incline we had to switch the fencing material used. We used three inch slats running vertically across the fence. It came out better than I had ever imagined. I like using the slats more than the original idea of using lattice sheets.
The other side came out just as nice. It extends all the way down to the vegetation garden planter box area.
Posts up!

These have been installed perfectly straight and super solid with one bag of cement used to hold down and secure each supporting 4×4″ post.
