It’s Mothers Day and one of the presents for the wifey was to get her BMW 330ci detailed inside and out. The guy who did the work has 18 years experience and is very good. He spent about 5 hours getting it all done.
I also had work done on my Porsche for the finalizing “cut and buff” process. This is where all the swirls, scratches, bubbles etc. are removed. The photo below was taken today and processed through HDR software for the look I wanted.
I picked up a set of head screens for my Porsche 986. The guy I bought it from was a trip. He’s converting his Boxster 986 into an electric car. He had already gotten to the point where the electric motor is inside of the body and attached. It will be interesting to see how well he does if I keep in contact with him.
The set had some overspray from some paint job the previous owner must have been involved with. I went ahead and resprayed both to keep them consistent.
I’m still trying to figure out how to securely fasten the windscreens as the plastic tabs that normally support it doesn’t seem like it would hold when the wind catches.
saw this on my way in from work this morning. I would have pulled over but this particular stretch doesn’t have a safe shoulder to park. With the amount of 18 wheelers hauling down that stretch of the road I figured.. nah.
I tried the video time lapse feature of the GoPro 4 Silver. For starters I used the 0.5 second increment to give me more frames to work with if needed. The video was taken from Handlery Hotel located in the Union Square area San Francisco. Oddly enough the I shot this from the 6th floor, room “666”.
It took me awhile to figure out how to get the video play at a “faster” rate. I used GoPro Studio to produce the raw video and Final Cut X to add music by Yuck Nasty and lower 3rd credits.
I took a photograph using my iPhone 6 Plus of my still new to me Boxster paint job. Next weekend I’m taking it in to have the “cut and polish” work done to remove the swirls and dust particles that were embedded during the clear coat process.
I took this photograph just a couple miles from the bird sanctuary located near Walnut Grove, CA. This shot was taken using a Fuji X100 mirrorless camera.
I’ve had some disappointing moments with Beater Boxster’s paint job project. One of the high items of my “piss me off, really?” moments was scraping the damn overspray off my windshield and side windows. It was so bad I could barely see through it when I was driving towards the sun.
I tried the WD-40, paint thinner, cleaner route and none of that stuff really made a difference. I finally got a tip from a YouTube video that showed a guy removing overspray from glass using a wide razor blade. It turns out I had one of these in my tool box so I was in luck and could try it out right away. It took a while but I got the overspray off.
All the plastic and masking protection was a precaution when I was handling the different chemicals that didn’t even work.
I received a few status photos of my Porsche 986 paint job. So far this run (4th time painting) looks better. I’ll check it out tomorrow to see it in person. Here’s a couple of photos of the before and after…
